At first the teacher asks students to open their books page 53.

The teacher: Where is this man?

The students: He is in the sky.

The teacher: very very high in the sky is called SPACE. Look at his clothing. He has special clothes. So he is in the space.

The teacher: Who was the first man who went to space?

The students: Yuri Gagarin from Russia.

The teacher: How many years ago?

The students: about 50 years ago.

The teacher shows the photos of Yuri Gagarin to the students. She can use power point.

T: Who was the first man who travels to the moon?

S: Neil Armstrong from America.

T: Who knows what he said when he stepped on the moon?

The teacher means the word “step”. “Step” means put foot on sth- walk on some thing.

S: This is one small step for the man, one giant leap for mankind.

If the students don’t know the answers, the teacher will help them .The teacher means the word “leap”. It means jump. And giant means very high.

Now the teacher writes the word “space” on the blackboard. Then he asks them to say the words that are related to the space.

T: What is the relationship between “telescope” and “space”?

S: We see space better with the telescope.

T: What is the relationship between “satellite” and “space”?

S: Satellite is some thing go around another some thing else.

T: The satellites are man made or artificial and natural.

S: What is the relationship between “space’ and “space station”?

S: Space station is a center in the space for finding new information about other planets, moon and space.

T; What is the relationship between “space” and “planet”?

S: planet is in the space.

T: What other words that are related to “space”? Can you name the other words that are related to “space”?

S: Space craft- astronaut

T: What is the relation between “space” and “space craft”?

S: We can travel to the space by space craft.

T: What is the relation between “space” and “astronaut”?

S: Astronaut is a person who can go to the space.


Now the teacher draws the pictures of the solar system on the blackboard or shows it with power point. The sun and the other planets go around the sun.



T: The earth is orbiting the sun. What is the meaning of “orbit”?

S: go around



Now the teacher asks students to open their books on page 54.

T: What is the meaning of the title “space exploration”? It means travel to find new things about space. The teacher divided students to the groups. Each group has three members. For example if the students are 30, we’ll have 10groups.

Every person has a number in his group.1,2,3. The teacher asks the students to read their own paragraph. For example number one read paragraph 1. They must read their own paragraph in 10 minutes and find the new words in dictionary. The teacher is a guider or leader.

After 10 minutes the people or students who read paragraph1 go to one group, paragraph2 in one group and paragraph 3 in another group. The teacher guide them.The students mean the paragraphs and paraphrase their paragraphs. They find the main idea and write some questions of their paragraph. This part lasts about 8 minutes.

Then they go to the first groups. They read their own paragraphs for all members of the group and paraphrase it. They answer their classmates’ questions. It takes 15 minutes.

The teacher turns on the cassette player. The students listen to the tape. She asks the main idea of paragraph 1 .They answer “It is about what early people know about space. Then the teacher ask one student to paraphrase paragraph one. She asks randomly. The students ask their questions about this paragraph and this student answer.

The teacher continue paragraph 2 and 3 like paragraph1. After that the teacher write the new words of paragraph 1,2 and 3 on the board. For example launch, density, satellite…  She asks students to make sentences with these words. They say their sentences and the teacher corrects them. This part takes 25 minutes.

Home work: For next session students have to do some homework. The teacher divides the students to 5 groups. They must choose one of these topics. 1- Apollo missions (travel)  2-Gallileo  3- Newton   4- space station   5- Launch of voyagers. Voyager is the name of the satellite. They must collect information about these topics from the internet, books, asking people … They write on the paper and the next session the teacher collect their researches. She will some of them to write their researches or summarize it and tell the students. The next session the teacher teaches the rest of reading like page 54.
