The longest word in English
The longest word in English depends upon the definition of an "English word". English allows new words to be formed by construction; long words are coined; place names may be considered words; technical terms may be arbitrarily long. Length can be in terms of orthography and number of written letters or phonology and the number of phonemes. The longest known "word" in the English language containing 189,819 letters, is the chemical name for Methionylthreonylthreonyl...isoleucine, the shortened version of a protein also known as titin, or sometimes connectin, which is involved in striated muscle formation. Its chemical formula is C132983H211861N36149O40883S693. The longest word in any major English language dictionary is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, a 45-letter word supposed to refer to a lung disease contracted from the inhalation of volcanic ash, but research has discovered that this word was originally intended as a hoax. It has since been used in a close approximation of its originally intended meaning, lending at least some degree of validity to its claim. |+| نوشته شده توسط گروه آموزشي زبان انگليسي در ساعت

INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES BY:REZA TAHERIAN
Innovative strategies which make boring English classes interesting
Introduction: Do you ever hear that a student calls his English teacher a grim riper or a monster and in return his sport teacher is an angel? Why this happens in our most schools? To be considering this problem lets see what we have in our English classes? A cold uninteresting class with rigid row ordered desks with green wounded board and the martinet teacher add to them poor slow witted inhomogeneous students with an old A. L. M method based books. How could we make our classes interesting? Lets see some innovative strategies. A: The first presentation. Be aware of your first presentation that can effect your a year time class. Pre plan your first attendance and write the things that you are going to talk about. Start your class in English. Attract your students’ attention and show off your speaking ability. B: Mention the importance of English learning. Some students may ask you” why do we learn English teacher”? “What’s the use of it”? If nobody asks you, write this question on the board. Why do we learn English? Talk about our great grand fathers and tell them how they were famous and respectful when they could read and write and compare that with today’s document oriented period. If you have BA, MA or PHD with out Knowing English, you are illiterate. C: How you score your students’ progress. Some, lets say all students are score oriented. They just study for marks, so you can benefit this. Preparing an EXELLENT card. One of the best and practicable ways of scoring students is through an excellent card. Ask them to buy a card (post card) and paste it at the end of their books. What ever they do in the class give them an excellent. (Three excellents, one point). D: How to make a book interesting? Ask the students to color the Pictures of their books before the lesson starts and give them an Excellent. With this activity, firstly the student get familiar with the new words you are going to teach and secondly the book becomes interesting. E: How to start your lesson? Ask the students to find the meaning of new words before the lesson starts and give them an Excellent. Remember that to teach them how to look up the words in the dictionary. F: God bless Robert Wilson Don’t bother your vocal cord for reading new words or reading text except one time. Let Mr. Robert do this for you. At first the students will object but they will get used to it. Play the tape for 2 or 3 times for the students and while it is playing write the new words on the blackboard. G: Give the definition of the new words in simple English. Try to give the definitions of new words in English or show them a picture. Try not to use Farsi equivalence except you have to. Model the new words yourself and ask the students to repeat after you. Then ask some volunteers to do the job again. H: How to teach the grammar? I myself hate this part but most teachers like it because it’s the main part of their authorities. They ask the students to write some boring useless grammar points in their grammar notebooks and students should be silent and obedient. You can teach this part as you wish deductively or inductively or skip it at all. I: Language Function I believe this part is the most desirable part of the lessons, although its unreal and useless you can put this in real life situation and make an interesting conversation with that. Ask the student to play the role in front of the class and remember that to model it yours first. J: Pronunciation practice In this part you should mention first the necessity of the phonetic symbols contrastive analysis will help you to do this. (Are 26 English letters enough to pronounce any word in English) K: preparing a small vocabulary notebook. Ask the students to write the new words of each lesson in a small portable pocket size notebook with self-made sentences. They can copy the books’ sentences too. Conclusion: As I mentioned at the beginning of the article these are innovative strategies which I experienced through my teaching periods at high school. I hope these could sparkle or turn something on in your mind or your teaching style. I will appreciate any critics or hints from dear colleagues, which will help me to modify and improve mine.
